In this presentation, the speaker describes novel data-driven approaches to identify, quantify, monitor and remove subsurface marine litter and plastic from Kenyan rivers, oceans and waterways. The speaker will share their own experiences and findings implementing a machine learning system with a 73% mean-average precision to support the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) efforts to monitor in real-time the plastic leakage into the Tana River and provide an accurate and expedited approach to cleaning up missions.
