Conference theme: Translating Health Research and Innovation into Policy and Practice

Background

Translation of research is the process by which research findings are utilized or applied by health care providers, managers, and policymakers to guide practice. It serves to enhance the impact of innovative solutions generated through scientific research for the improvement of healthcare services. In the case of Nakuru County, numerous research, innovation, and developmental projects have been conducted in order to improve patient care, health administration, and policy over the years. While the impact of these projects on healthcare improvement cannot be overstated, there is a need for a holistic perspective on their progress, challenges, outputs, and recommendations by the leadership, management, and other stakeholders in the county and beyond.

Call for submissions

The County Government of Nakuru and Kabarak University invites submissions from researchers, innovatorsand implementing partners for presentation at the Joint Annual Health Conference to be held between August 26 and 30, 2024 at Kabarak University.

Objectives of the Conference

  1. To provide a platform for the dissemination of research, innovation and project implementation outputs in Nakuru County.
  2. To provide a learning platform for emerging technologies and approaches for universal health coverage.
  3. To foster the establishment of collaborations for research, innovation and project implementation among researchers, policy makers, implementation partners and other key stakeholders.

Presentation Types 

Researchers, innovators, implementing partners and healthcare workers with works focusing on Nakuru county and conducted in the county are invited to submit the following for presentation at the conference;

  1. Policy briefs from research, innovation and implementation projects. These should be a maximum of 2 pages, with a font size of 12 and 1 inch margins. They should outline the key messages, the context of the project, the project / study approach, project / study  results, policy recommendations and references.
  2. Impact and progress reports on innovation and implementation projects. These should be a maximum of 2 pages, with a font size of 12 and 1 inch margins. They should contain an abstract (200 words), background, methodology, results, implications / recommendations, next steps and references.
  3. Short papers detailing actionable findings from empirical research studies. These should be a maximum of 5 pages, with 12 fonts and 1 inch margins. They should contain an abstract (200 words), background, methodology, results, implications / recommendations and references.
  4. Best practice papers from healthcare workers and facilities. These should be a maximum of 5 pages, with 12 fonts and 1 inch margins. They should contain an abstract (200 words), background, methodology, the best practice, implications / recommendations for the practice and references.

Policy briefs, Impact and progress reports, and best practice papers will be published in special issues of the Kabarak University Journal of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Allied Sciences (KJMPS).
